Wall Street Journal did a great disservice to patients and families battling prostate cancer.

December 9, 2010 -

On December 8, 2010, the Wall Street Journal did a great disservice to patients and families battling prostate cancer. By publishing a flawed analysis, the Journal minimized both the impact of the disease, and the effect that early diagnosis and treatment has on survival.

Nationally published statistics show that between 1992 and 2007, the death rate from prostate cancer declined by over 40%, and between 2000 and 2007 alone, declined by over 23% for Medicare aged patientsThe work is not over one man still dies every 21 minutes in the United States from this disease.

The physicians of Integrated Medical Professionals currently care for over 800,000 patients in a team approach to healthcare. The IMP framework allows for the thousands of years of clinical experience to be shared instantaneously across the entire greater NY Metropolitan Area, ensuring that every patient gets the care they need, in time, every time.  Every IMP member physician is board certified in their specialty, and many have advanced fellowship and postgraduate training.

Of all integrated urology practices in the country, IMP is regarded as a national leader in the areas of quality management, utilization review, compliance and the development of coordinated clinical pathways.

This is particularly true regarding delivery of radiation services.  We were among the first in the nation to offer both Image Guiding and RapidArc technologies, both substantial improvements in treatments over what was previously available.  All our patients have the opportunity to review all available options, whether surgical or radiation, and these services can be offered by expert physicians without the inconvenience of obtaining copies of medical records or imaging studies.  Our pathways and outcomes analyses have demonstrated that we have improved outcomes and reduced cost, while multiple locations across the region ensure that patients anywhere are only minutes away from their doctor.

Unfortunately, we live in a world where hard work and dedication to principles are undermined by those who seek either sensational headlines and/or want to promote a specific political agenda.  As independent practitioners, we are responsible only to our patients, not to insurance companies or hospitals. We will continue to work to improve access to life saving technology, and not be dissuaded by individuals and organizations who ruthlessly promote a monopoly over health care delivery. Over 100 physicians, and nearly 1,000 staff members who support them, will not be turned aside from our mission, which is to deliver the best care in the world, right in your backyard.
