Dr. Chan then moved to Boston for a period of seven years and completed his residency program in urology at Boston University Medical Center, fostering skills in the management of erectile dysfunction, stone disease and urologic oncology. During his residency training, Dr. Chan worked at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and was involved in multiple laboratory projects investigating the relationship of genetic polymorphisms as they relate to the development of prostate cancer. Upon completion of residency, Dr. Chan furthered his training with a fellowship in endourology at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center/Harvard Medical School, enhancing his techniques in minimally invasive surgery with ureteroscopy, percutaneous nephrolithotomy, and laparoscopy. Upon completion of his fellowship, he was awarded second place in a national contest by the Endourological Society for work involving the evaluation blood flow to the kidney as it pertains to stone treatment with lithotripsy.
Dr. Chan returned back to Long Island to practice urology, with special interests in managing stone disease and performing minimally invasive surgeries including laparoscopic treatment of kidney cancer. He is currently a director for the medical advisory board of Allied Urological, which provides services of lithotripsy for kidney stones and treatment of prostate disease throughout Long Island and Manhattan. He also sits on the quality improvement committee for the Department of Urology at New Island Hospital to help ensure the best urologic care for the patients of its community.
