UroLift BPH Treatment

One of the newest, most successful treatments for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is the UroLift System. More than 37 million men in the United States are affected by BPH. Clinical data has shown that the UroLift System treatment is safe and effective. This minimally invasive approach to treating BPH is a great option for patients looking for an alternative to medication.

What is a benign prostatic hyperplasia BPH ?

BPH is an enlarged prostate gland. This is a common diagnosis as men age. For most, the enlargement doesn’t usually cause problems until later in their life.

According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases:

  • BPH rarely causes symptoms before age 40.
  • About 50 percent of men between the ages of 51 and 60 have some symptoms of BPH.
  • Up to 90 percent of men older than 80 have some BPH symptoms.

How does the UroLift System work?

It’s a nonsurgical procedure that places tiny implants to lift and hold the enlarged prostate tissue out of the way, so it no longer blocks the urethra, resulting in improved urination. There is no cutting, heating or removal of prostate tissue.

Benefits of UroLift Treatment:

UroLift is a simple surgery with minimal downtime. UroLift is generally performed in the office under local or general anesthesia. Typically, patients can return home the same day and will see improvement to their urinary tract symptoms as early as 2 weeks post procedure. In some cases, patients may return home the same day, with a catheter that will be removed in a couple days. The fast recovery means you can get back to your normal life and activities.

Common Symptoms of BPH:

  • Frequent urination
  • Feeling of incomplete emptying of the bladder
  • Need to urinate at night
  • Slow urine stream
  • Not being able to urinate
  • Urgency to urinate
  • Not being able to hold urine
  • Blood in urine
  • Urinary tract infection
