Dr. Ziegelbaum graduated in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science degree from the State University of New York at Binghamton. In 1976, he went to the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, where he studied until 1980. After studying abroad, he returned to the states and attended the Cornell University Medical College, where he received his medical degree in 1982. He completed his general surgery internship in 1983, at the New York University Medical Center, before going to Cleveland to finish his postgraduate training. From 1983 to 1987, Dr. Ziegelbaum was a resident in urology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. He remained at the clinic and served as chief resident in urology from 1987 to 1988. Dr. Ziegelbaum completed his training with a fellowship at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Dr. Ziegelbaum is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).
Dr. Ziegelbaum holds many positions in the community. He is active in a variety of academic, clinical and charitable endeavors in the medical world and beyond. He was an assistant clinical professor in urology at the Albert Einstein Medical College, an assistant professor in the department of urology at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, and an assistant clinical professor at Hofstra NSLIJ Medical School. Currently, Dr. Ziegelbaum is an assistant professor at Northwell Health/Zucker School of Medicine. He is past president of the Nassau County Medical Society.
Dr. Ziegelbaum also has many hospital appointments. He is currently on staff at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, St. Francis Hospital and Northwell Health System. Currently, he is president of the hospital’s medical staff and provides grants at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. This comprises five hospitals including the main Long Island Jewish Hospital in New Hyde Park, LIJ-at Forest Hills, LIJ-at Valley Stream, Cohen’s Children’s Hospital and Zucker Hillside Hospital.
Dr. Ziegelbaum has been active in urology research. He has presented most of his work at meetings of the American Urological Association as well as abroad. He has many articles in publication. His work can be found in the Journal of the American Medical Association and the Journal of Urology among other publications.
Dr. Ziegelbaum is a member of many medical societies, including the American Urological Association, the American Medical Association, the Medical Society of the State of New York, the New York Academy of Medicine, and the American Association of Clinical Urologists. He serves on the executive committee of the Nassau County Medical Society Long Island Chapter of Urologists, the American College of Surgeons and its local branch, the Brooklyn Queens Chapter.
Dr. Ziegelbaum’s clinical interest is in general urology. In addition, he has special interest and skills in renal surgery and minimally invasive procedures for treating prostate enlargement.
