Dr. Schumer graduated Cornell University with a Bachelors degree in 1984. He went to medical school at The University of Vermont College of Medicine and then went on to complete a residency in Urology at Maimonides Medical Center. In addition to his clinical training he spent a year at Columbia University in a fellowship performing molecular biology research centering on Programmed Cell Death. During that year Dr. Schumer published multiple articles in many scientific journals and presented at national meetings throughout the country. He won second prize in the Ferdinand Valentine New York State Urologic essay contest two years in a row.

He is a board certified urologist practicing on the south shore of Long Island. Dr. Schumer is also a clinical instructor in the Department of Urology at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He served as the chief of urology at Brunswick Hospital Center and was the medical director of The Long Island Surgery Center. Dr. Schumer is also on the Urology Board of The Kidney and Urology Foundation and is an original member of Integrated Medical Professionals and has served on its board since inception of the company.
